Workshop 2: Implementing Task-Based Language Teaching in University English Instruction

In this workshop, participants will explore how core principles of Task-Based Language
Teaching (TBLT) can be applied in designing meaningful university English instruction.
Building on the foundations of experiential learning and effective pedagogy, TBLT develops
learners’ abilities to accomplish real-world target communication tasks. A sample target task,
drawn from an English-medium university context, will serve as the focus of this workshop.
Participants will examine how the target task is related to the needs of English learners and
where it might fit within an English teaching syllabus. They will then apply key TBLT
ideas—including input, interaction, focus on form, and feedback—to the design of an
instructional sequence that develops learners’ target-task abilities. They will also consider
approaches to assessing task-based learning and performance, as well as implications for next
steps in instruction.
The workshop will adopt a hands-on approach, with substantial discussion and interaction among
participants.
Participants will learn to:
Identify meaningful target tasks for English language learners and courses
Apply key TBLT principles to the design of meaningful English language lessons
Assess task-based language learning and performance

日本でもオープンバッジの発行が各所で始まりました。このワークショップでは、学校・企業・資格認定協会などによるオープンバッジ発行事例についていくつかご紹介の上、参加者のみなさまに実際にバッジデータ(サンプル)で作成いただき、受領するまでに一連のプロセスを体験いただきます。受領されたバッジから、その活用方法や今後の可能性もディスカッションしたいと思います。
